Operation 50 Pristine Miles – A Step Towards Cleaner Beaches

Operation 50 Pristine Miles

Operation 50 Pristine Miles

During the second half of 2023, we launched Operation 50 Pristine Miles project in Sette Cama, Gabon, as part of our ongoing efforts to protect this remarkable ecosystem. Beyond the direct benefits of sustainable tourism, this initiative focused on tackling the growing issue of plastic pollution along Gabon’s pristine beaches.

Progress So Far

The pilot phase saw significant strides: 18 kilometres of beach have now been cleaned, including a 9-kilometre first pass. This effort allowed us to test and refine protocols for future cleanups, putting us in an excellent position to scale up the operation. The goal is clear—to preserve these wild spaces for the animals that rely on them, all while addressing the impact of humanity’s plastic footprint.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Alongside 50 Pristine Miles, our team also implemented the 5 Minutes, 5 Days, 5 Metres initiative in collaboration with NGO Diboty Conservation. Located next to our hatchery, this ongoing project demonstrates how even small, consistent efforts can make a difference. Over the course of these cleanups, an average of more than 20 plastic bottles, 30 caps, dozens of labels, and approximately 1 kilogram of microplastics were collected within just 5 metres of beach.

Looking Ahead

With every kilometre cleaned, we are not only protecting wildlife but also inspiring awareness about the urgent need to combat plastic pollution. The success of these initial efforts provides a solid foundation for expanding Operation 50 Pristine Miles further.

Stay tuned as we continue to share updates and progress on this vital project—because every step we take brings us closer to cleaner, healthier beaches for generations to come.
