Today marked another stationary donation to the Makhangoa community school. It is incredible to see all the kids back at school now, which only started on the 6th of April 2021. The kids have been without an education for over a year due to covid 19, the reason being that remote rural schools such as this have not have access to the government supplied sanitation facilities and PPE’s, and were not allowed to resume until such time as these needs were met by the local government. Thankfully the required measure are now in place, and then kids all seemed so happy to be back with all their friends!
The stationary was kindly supplied by our fishing guests throughout the season. African Waters also played a huge part in supplying bulk stationary such as exercise books, pens and some fun educational games. Through speaking to the school’s headmistress, we gathered that she too was extremely happy to be back with all of her students, and expressed how difficult it has been without work.
In line with our community partnership protocols, before the stationary donation, the pupils were tasked with moving through the village and picking up any litter they could find. It is an amazing feeling to help an underprivileged school in these tough times. We will be installing solar panels and lights in every classroom within the next week, which will make it easier for everyone during the dark winter mornings. On behalf of African Waters, we would like to thank everyone who made the effort to bring up stationary for the school. It will all be put to good use!
