Sette Cama Shark Fishing

Sette Cama Shark Fishing isn’t the first thing most anglers think of when planning a trip here, but it has become a standout part of the programme. With strong numbers of sharks along this stretch of coast, it adds another layer of excitement to the surf sessions and often provides fresh stories around the dinner table.

Moving Away from the Mouth

In the early days, most shark sessions took place at the mouth. Fish were plentiful, but the action could be chaotic. With so many sharks concentrated in one area, cut-offs were common, often leaving fish trailing hooks and traces. To solve this, the guides refined their approach and started fishing directly in front of camp. Baits are paddled or swum out, requiring more patience, but the results are worth it—larger sharks, cleaner hook-ups, and the occasional surprise catch.

A Surprising First Catch

One evening during preseason training, the plan was simple: rig an Elops as live bait to tempt something big. Instead, sea barbels moved in and kept the rods busy. Just as the sun set, another solid take came through. At first it felt like another barbel, but when the fish rolled in the shore break, a nurse shark revealed itself.

Shark Week Begins

It wasn’t the largest shark landed at Sette Cama, but it was one of the most unusual, showing once again how this fishery delivers the unexpected. Patience and a shift in strategy had produced a unique first catch.

This is the opening feature in our Shark Week series. Each day this week we’ll be sharing highlights from the surf line, showcasing the sharks and the stories that make Sette Cama one of the most diverse and exciting destinations in Africa.
