Shore fishing for tarpon
After a challenging week of shore fishing for tarpon, the crew went into the final session with quiet optimism. The sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, the air heavy with anticipation. Dave’s cast landed perfectly in a promising pocket—and almost instantly, the water exploded.
The Hook-Up and First Run
The tarpon inhaled the fly and launched skyward in a flash of silver muscle. Dave locked down the drag, the fish tearing down the beach in a blur, leaping again and again. Each acrobatic twist only fuelled the excitement for everyone watching.
Steering the Fight
Reading the battle, Dave worked the fish away from the main current and into calmer backwater. Minutes passed. The fish drew closer, but the looming sandbar meant the real test was still to come.
The Final Push
As a wave surged in, Dave used its push to guide the tarpon over the lip of the bar. The fish slid onto the sand, gleaming in the fading light.
Victory on the Beach
Cheers rang out. A week of graft and patience had come down to this moment. Dave stood grinning, the silver giant at his side, the perfect end to a hard-fought week.
Sette Cama in Gabon
Gabon has the longest stretch of untouched coastline in Africa. Combined with a massive, nutrient-rich estuary system, it offers avid saltwater anglers the chance to target the unique species of West Africa using both spin and fly tackle. Large, aggressive game fish eagerly strike a well-fished fly or lure, set against the backdrop of Africa’s most pristine tropical rainforest. This is a one-of-a-kind saltwater fishing and ecotourism experience.
Sette Cama also offers guided wildlife experiences in Loango National Park. Guests may see chimpanzees, lowland gorillas, red river hogs, forest sitatunga, duikers, monkeys, and even forest elephants and buffalo on the beach. The birding is world-class, with opportunities to spot vermiculated fishing owls, chocolate-backed kingfishers, and white-crested tiger herons, among many others.
