Anti Poaching – Mobile Units Safeguarding the Mnyera and Ruhudji Rivers

Anti Poaching

Anti poaching (AP) on the Mnyera and Ruhudji Rivers is an integral part of our fishery management startergies. River based AP  work  goes hand in hand with a vigorous terrestrial AP strategy run by concession owners, KNS.  This two-pronged approach ensures that both the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems are able to thrive, free from illegal human pressure, while effectively protecting a wilderness area of over 700,000ha.

A proactive approach is always better than a reactive one in these scenarios.  But, with limited road networks and logistical challenges moving boats, river AP teams, and AP camps, it is not always possible to stay one step ahead. The addition of two fully mobile units on the Mnyera and Ruhudji Rivers this season marks the start of the next chapter in our long-term protection of this incredible fishery with KNS. Using semi rigid inflatable boats, able to carry 3 AP team members each, and ultra-light mobile camp gear, these mobile teams are going to be spearheading our efforts in further protecting over 110km of prime tigerfish water on the Mnyera and Ruhudji Rivers. We look forward to continued success on this front as our guests from around the globe delight in their experience of the finest tiger fishery on the continent.
