Species: Tarpon, crevalle, giant African threadfin, cuberra snapper, sailfish, yellowfin tuna
The Fly Fishing:
The giant tarpon of west African have been on the radar of fly fishermen for decades. This dedicated tarpon operation is focused on fly fishing to these trophy fish. The fishing is focused in an expansive wilderness area comprising several river systems, coastal lagoons, mangrove forests, and open ocean. Crevalle, longfin jack, cuberra snappers, and giant African threadfin are also encountered in the same areas. Blue water fishing to sailfish, yellowfish tuna, dorado and other pelagics is also on the cards.
The Skiffs:
We are running 21ft Pro V Orca flats skiffs for this fishery. These skiffs are paired with 140hp 4-stroke
outboards. Our skiffs are equipped with trawling motors, naviontics, fish finders, and all the required
safety gear. We fish 2 anglers and 1 guide per skiff.
The Average Day:
We start early, with guides and guests meeting at the skiffs at the Marina. Your guides will advise on the time to meet, as well as the proposed plan for the day the evening before. Each day’s angling will be planned around the tides, and weather, to give you the best shots at your dream fish. Breakfast and dinner will be at your hotel, or one of the many great restaurants in the area (dinners). Delicious, packed lunches and snacks are prepared by your guides to enjoy on the boat, as well as coffee, waters, and soft drinks of your choice.
The small ‘island’ town of Port Gentil, lying on the edge of the huge Ogoue River Delta is the base for
this adventure. The eclectic mix of local and expat culture, and frontier-like-energy of the town are a
highlight of the experience. Hotel Mandji is our base in Port Gentil.
