KALAHARI WILDERNESS DRIFT

South Africa | July to November
Tour Details
  • July to November
  • 6 Anglers
  • Kalahari, Southern Africa
  • 6 Nights, 5 Fishing Days

Species: Largemouth yellowfish, smallmouth yellowfish

This multi-night Orange River drift through the Kalahari offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Largemouth yellowfish are the primary target, with smallmouth yellowfish a secondary focus. Group sizes are limited to 4 or 6 anglers for optimal fishing.

Each group is accompanied by 2–3 fly fishing guides and 2 river guides. While anglers fish, the river team handles camp setup, catering, and logistics.

A few Class 3 rapids are encountered. These can be portaged if guests prefer not to run them.

Wild Paradise River Camp:

Your first and sixth night is spent in this seasonal tented camp at Onseepkans. Single canvas tents (3m x 3m) include a stretcher, mattress, sheet, and pillow. Separate ablutions offer hot showers and flush toilets. Meals are served under a Bedouin tent.

Wilderness Camping:

Guests sleep in custom swags (¾ mattress with sheet and pillow). The swags can be closed, open, or used with a fly sheet for stargazing. Each night’s camp includes a basic kitchen and Bedouin tent. Wild ablutions follow strict eco-protocols.

The Fly Fishing:

Custom-built drift boats hold two anglers and one guide. Most fishing is done while drifting, though anglers also wet wade when targeting smallmouths.

  • An absolutely unforgettable trip, the culture of your staff/guides makes me want to use African Waters in the future. The way your young men treated the 83year old deaf man on our trip was exceptional – kind, caring, non-patronizing! Well done to all!
