Tour Details
  • September to April
  • 8 Anglers
  • Gabon, West Africa
  • 7 Nights, 6.5 Fishing Days

Species: Tarpon, longfin jack, jack crevalle, giant African threadfin, cubera snapper, and more.

Gabon has the longest stretch of untouched coastline in Africa. Combined with a massive, nutrient-rich estuary system, it offers avid saltwater anglers the chance to target the unique species of West Africa using both spin and fly tackle. Large, aggressive game fish eagerly strike a well-fished fly or lure, set against the backdrop of Africa’s most pristine tropical rainforest. This is a one-of-a-kind saltwater fishing and ecotourism experience.

Sette Cama also offers guided wildlife experiences in Loango National Park. Guests may see chimpanzees, lowland gorillas, red river hogs, forest sitatunga, duikers, monkeys, and even forest elephants and buffalo on the beach. The birding is world-class, with opportunities to spot vermiculated fishing owls, chocolate-backed kingfishers, and white-crested tiger herons, among many others.

The Lodge:

Set on the southern boundary of Loango National Park, Sette Cama offers an exclusive wilderness experience.
Accommodation is in wooden chalets with twin beds and ensuite bathrooms. Each room has air-conditioning and plug points for charging devices.
Meals are served in the central living area, which features a stocked bar, dining space, lounge, and a deck overlooking the Ndogo Estuary.

The Fishing:

Sette Cama offers an abundance of fly and spin fishing opportunities. Angling is either boat-based (within the estuary and lagoon systems) or on foot in the surf and around the lagoon mouth.

Wildlife and BirdingIt is possible to spend as much time as one likes viewing game and birds. WeatherThe season runs over the summer wet season. The fresh water coming out the jungle is what triggers the large concentrations of predatory fish. Days are typically 30 to 35 Degrees celcius (80 to 95 Fahrenheit). Rain comes in short sharp storms, and rainy generally doesn’t affect a trip, as the rain starts and ends quickly

Boats Yes – Fishing in the estuary is done from a boat. All sea fishing is done on foot in the surf.

CommunicationsNormal cell communications in camp. Wifi also available. Both Cell and wifi connectivity is temperamental in bad weather

LaundryDone daily and free of charge

Optional add on Safari to your stayOur Cameroon season lines up really well with this trip. There are daily flights from Libreville to Douala where Cameroon trips start. These two trips can be combined very easily. Another option is to view Gorillas in the northern section of the park. On your return to Libreville you will travel back via Port Gentil. To view the gorillas your travel will start from Port Gentil via vehicle and boat. These gorilla viewing add on safaris can be customized in terms of the number of days – we suggest a minimum of three nights.

Safety100% safety record. All groups are guided by world class English speaking professional guides, with a wealth of experience in the safari, fly fishing, and big game industry. Each group of 8 anglers is accompanied by 2 guides to ensure safety at all times when walking and fishing in potentially dangerous game areas.

Beyond the Fishing

Wildlife and Loango National Park

Sette Cama is located on the southern border of Loango National Park, a magical window into a time when elephants and buffalo roam the beaches, gorillas and chimpanzees thrive in the rainforest, and giant fish rule the waves.

As part of the protected area network, Loango National Park spans 1,550 km² of forests, wetlands, grassy plains, mangroves, lagoons, and sandy beaches along Gabon’s southern coast. Sette Cama Lodge provides small groups of guests with an intimate experience of the park’s unique and diverse ecosystems.
While some activities are boat- and vehicle-based, most are guided walks led by in-house professional wildlife guides. These excursions offer the chance to encounter forest wildlife such as chimpanzees, western lowland gorillas, forest elephant, forest buffalo, red river hogs, sitatungas, leopards, surfing hippos, and various monkey and duiker species.

Wildlife Experiences at Sette Cama Include:

  • Great Ape encounters – both for Chimpanzees and Lowland Gorillas
  • Guided forest walks
  • Guided beach walks
  • Searching for “surfing” hippos
  • Lagoon excursions
  • Day and night game drives

Feedback from our Guests:

  • A truly professional outfit managed by a great, enthusiastic crew! The destination was unbelievable. Considering the remoteness, logistics and socio-economic challenges of the area, the offering and experience is very well put together and managed. I could not have expected much more. Many thanks and look forward to returning.
