Species: Smallmouth yellowfish, rainbow trout, brown trout
MCC has earned a reputation for offering Africa’s finest dry fly sight fishing. Guests have access to over 20 km of pristine yellowfish water, with the unique opportunity to target both rainbow and brown trout in the same river system.
Alongside the fly fishing, visitors experience the vibrant culture and natural beauty of Lesotho’s mountain communities.
Built to resemble a traditional Basotho homestead, the camp blends into the mountain environment. There are four stone-and-thatch rondavels, each sleeping two (with an option for a king-size bed). Each rondavel features a private veranda overlooking the river.
The central living space includes:
Electricity is solar-powered (220v), with plug points in the living area. The camp is serviced by two boutique bathrooms, each featuring a clawfoot bath, fireplace, shower, toilet, and double vanity. Bedding and towels are provided.
Arguably Africa’s best sight fishing experience. Dry flies are the go-to, though nymphs and streamers are used when needed. Wet-wading and walk-and-stalk techniques are common. During high water, anglers use drift boats where the Bokong River flows into Katse Dam.
The MCC, a partnership between African Waters and the Makhangoa Community, launched in 2012. It has become a benchmark for community-based fly fishing ventures in Africa.
