Tarpon Fishing Africa: Another week, another remarkable achievement unfolds at Sette Cama as a first-time success story. This week, we welcomed Brian and his brother, Mark, to our camp, filled with high hopes of engaging with the multitude of predatory fish that thrive in the surf zone. Brian’s unwavering determination and commitment proved to be the key to their memorable experience.

Throughout their stay, Brian demonstrated relentless persistence, despite the tough conditions. Armed with his lure, he cast time and again, patiently awaiting the elusive catch that could transform the entire trip into an unforgettable adventure. It felt like hours had passed, with the sun dipping low on the horizon, but Brian remained steadfast in his pursuit.

As darkness settled in on the North Bank, myself and Mark stood by, captivated by the serene beauty of the seascape. Then, a sudden and resounding splash resonated from the channel just in front of us, an unexpected harbinger of excitement. We exchanged intrigued glances, our anticipation mounting. Moments later, a jubilant cry of “I’m on!” echoed down the beach, setting our hearts racing.

The ensuing moments were fraught with exhilaration and mild trepidation. The taut line briefly dragged across some exposed reef, causing us to hold our collective breath. Brian, undeterred by the obstacle, demonstrated remarkable agility as he nimbly scrambled over the rocky terrain, determined to secure his hard-earned catch.

Finally, as if scripted by nature herself, Brian found himself kneeling in the foamy shore-break, cradling a magnificent fish in his arms. We gathered around him in awe, our eyes locked onto the captivating sight before us. In the dim moonlight, the gleaming scales of a stunning tarpon glistened with a mesmerising yellow hue.

This moment, filled with the thrill of success and shared with fellow anglers who appreciate the beauty of the chase, epitomised the essence of the fishing at Sette Cama. It was a testament to Brian’s tenacity and the magical surprises that the seas off Gabon have in store for those willing to embrace the challenge. The memory of that “one fish” that transformed Brian’s trip will undoubtedly be etched in our hearts for years to come.
