Sport Fishing in Gabon
Sport Fishing in Gabon: Joining us this week at Sette Cama are our long-standing client Alan and four new anglers—Christian, Paul, Lee, and James. After an unseasonably dry start to the fishing season, we’ve finally seen some rain in and around Sette Cama. The lagoon has risen significantly, and the flow of fresh water into the sea has slightly increased, aided by the neap tide and low coefficient. Rain plays a vital role in successful sport fishing in Gabon, as it deepens the river mouth, creating ideal conditions with nutrient-rich water that draws in massive shoals of baitfish, which in turn attract large numbers of game fish.
The Influence of Rain on Sport Fishing Success at Sette Cama
With the river mouth shifting due to recent rain, the fishing action has intensified throughout the week, and both threadfin and tarpon numbers are on the rise. Although none of the anglers managed to land a tarpon—despite a few thrilling hook-ups with the elusive silver king—the jacks kept everyone busy, with occasional kob and threadfin adding variety. Even on challenging days, the beauty of sport fishing in Gabon shines, offering chances to reel in trophy fish that are still top-quality by any standard.
Exciting Catches with Micro Jigging and Bull Shark Action
The river yielded some great catches, particularly with micro jigging, resulting in some impressive snapper early in the week. As the rain increased, it began pulling fish towards the river mouth, slowing the micro jigging action. One guest, Paul, was especially keen to land bull sharks and had an exciting week, hooking several large sharks and landing four, the largest weighing around 160 kg. Unfortunately, a few of the bigger sharks he hooked were lost when other sharks swam into the line, given the high density of sharks in the area.
