Sette Cama Fishing Trip – Festive Season

Sette Cama Fishing Trip

Sette Cama Fishing Trip

Spending the festive season on a Sette Cama Fishing Trip  is a fine way to wrap up the year. This time, we welcomed a diverse group—four South Africans, three Brazilians, and a Frenchman—who wasted no time making friendly wagers on who would land the trophy fish of the trip. They weren’t wrong. Just hours in, Trevor set the bar high with the first tarpon of the trip—also the biggest.

Tough Conditions, Big Rewards

The next three days brought heavy, much-needed rain. While it helped refresh the system for later in the trip, the sudden drop in water temperature made fishing tricky at first. That didn’t slow down 14-year-old Enrico from Brazil, who battled through and landed several solid bull sharks during the evening sessions.

Christmas Day was one to remember—great food, good company, and the perfect setting. But the real presents arrived later. As the week progressed, the water warmed, and the action picked up. Threadfin started showing up in numbers, including a standout fish pushing 25kg. Alongside them, the silver kings began rolling in.

Chaos at the Mouth

Conditions lined up perfectly. Tides and water temperature were textbook for the south bank. As darkness took hold one evening, the tarpon started flooding in. First up, Scott hooked into one on the fly. Seconds later, Dylan went tight on a stickbait, followed almost instantly by Lester. Three anglers hooked up at the same time—pure chaos. Tarpon were leaping in every direction. Incredibly, all three fish were landed, giving us guides a first—three first-time tarpon captures in one frame.

That set the tone for the rest of the week. Jacks ambushed baitfish in the last light, threadfin took over the night shift, and tarpon kept the adrenaline pumping. By the end of the trip, the tally stood at seven landed tarpon.

Fly Fishing Highlights and Jungle Encounters

The last two nights gave the fly anglers their turn. Scott lost three solid tarpon on the fly, but he didn’t leave empty-handed, landing two stunning cubera snapper and several threadfin. Gabon delivered more than just world-class fishing. The Brazilian family explored the jungle every second day, rewarded with phenomenal gorilla sightings and other wildlife encounters.

The real highlight? A surreal morning trek up the north coast led them to Gabon’s famous surfing hippos. Watching hippos emerge from the waves onto the beach, surrounded by forest buffalo, only to glance back and spot a leopard strolling the jungle edge in broad daylight—it was straight out of a documentary.
