Rainy Season Fishing – Another exciting week at Sette Cama

Rainy Season Fishing

Rainy Season Fishing

For week 9 of the 2024/25 season, we welcomed a group of South African clients, including several returning visitors and a few first-timers. The week kicked off with the biggest rains of the season, marking a thrilling shift in conditions. After a relatively dry start to the season, the arrival of 150mm of rain in a short period created an immediate buzz, setting the stage for an unforgettable week of rainy season fishing.

Adapting to Rainy Season Challenges

The initial heavy rains spiked the water temperature dramatically, which impacted fish behaviour temporarily. It took around 24-48 hours for the fish to adjust, but when they did, the fishing action was phenomenal.

Giant African Threadfin Take the Spotlight

Once conditions stabilised, threadfin fishing went into overdrive. These stunning fish, ranging from 4 to 12 kilograms, were in abundance. By the end of the week, over 140 Giant African threadfin had been landed, showcasing the peak potential of the rainy season.

Big Tarpon and Shark Adventures

The tarpon provided plenty of excitement, with good numbers spotted throughout the week. Philip managed to secure a magnificent 50kg tarpon during the last evening. The group also targeted sharks, landing a massive 200kg bull shark after a 45-minute battle—a team effort that left everyone thrilled.

Other Catches: Snappers, Jacks, and More

Although fewer snappers were caught than expected, the group still managed to land some impressive specimens. Large jack crevalle up to 25kg added to the excitement, along with smaller kob and a few more jacks that kept everyone entertained.

After two weeks of consistent rainfall, the rainy season is now well underway. These changing conditions promise even more exciting fishing experiences in the coming weeks.
