For the 5th week of the Kalahari Wilderness Drift 2020 season we were joined by anglers Chris, Kieran, Dean, Paul, Farrel, and William. We knew we were in for a treat as from the the get go everyone got on like a house on fire. There was a lot of laughter around the camp fire at night, and plenty of banter on the river making it a week we will remember for years to come.
The water was warm, and we found plenty smallmouth yellows in the faster flowing sections – stacked up and very aggressive. They could not resist a nymph drifting past them or even a well swung MSP. The latter proving to be very successful with the larger specimens.
The largemouth yellows were quite shy and proved to be a real test for the anglers. A number of smaller ones were landed but the larger sized fish proved to be quite shy, only showing themselves every now and again. At the end of the day, it makes it just so much more sweet when you do connect with a larger fish, well that is my opinion anyway 😉
For most, the adventure is what it is all about, and the fish is just the cherry on the cake.
Until next time,
Greg
