Giant African Threadfin – Another one for the books!

Giant African Threadfin

Giant African Threadfin

Giant African Threadfin: After a breathtaking helicopter ride over the jungle, the new group landed at the village. A short boat trip later, they were at camp, unpacking and settling in.

Following a swift lunch, they dove into action, setting up gear for the evening session. Starting with a sunset session was a wise choice, especially for newcomers, offering a chance to familiarize themselves with the surroundings before nightfall.

Jacks, Tarpon, and Giant African Threadfin

At the mouth, the water looked promising—dark, coke-stained water flowing into the sea. Ideal conditions for a night of fishing, and it delivered.

Jacks swarmed in massive shoals, aggressively chasing mullets along the shoreline. The guys enjoyed the thrill throughout the week, landing hefty jacks just before sunset. As dusk fell each evening, a brief window of around 45 minutes opened, with tarpon and giant African threadfin going wild. While tarpons were challenging to reel in, the new circle hook rigs improved the hookup rate. Several threadfins weighing over 20 kilograms were also caught on the circle hook rigs.

Jacks and Snapper Galore with Micro Jigging Success

In the lagoon, the morning sessions were bustling with jacks, eagerly striking poppers, stick baits, and bucktail jigs. Micro jigging proved fruitful for those who tried, yielding various species of snapper.

Overall, it was an unforgettable week, with everyone enjoying some fantastic fishing.
